ANCC Nursing Specialty Certification

Through the American Nurses Association Credentialing Center (ANCC), MNA members may earn certification status in several different specialty areas of nursing. ANA certification demonstrates professional competence and achievement and is proven to contribute to increasing quality patient care.

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) 2003 Continuing Education Requirement Update

As of 2003, 50 percent of the continuing education used for recertification must be from an ANCC accredited/approved provider. 51% must also be related to your specialty.  The Commission on Certification has also agreed to accept continuing education for the 50% requirement from the following list of providers:

  • American Academy of Family Practitioners (AAFP)
  • American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
  • American Academy of Physicians Assistants (AAPA)
  • American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM)
  • American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA)
  • Emergency Nurses Association (ENA)
  • National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH)
  • National Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates and Practitioners (NAPNAP)

Additionally, offerings will be accepted as part of the 50% requirement that are provided by organizations accredited by: 

Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Category I

  • American Psychiatric Association

Remember: Other types of contact hours/continuing education will continue to be accepted for the remaining 50%.
