Labor Relations
MNA’s Labor Relations program constitutes the largest contingency of membership, representing 18,500 nurses with collective bargaining agreements at facilities across the region.
For most members, the immediate connection is with their local bargaining unit, which is responsible for collective bargaining decisions within their workplace. Unit Stewards and Chairs are elected and carry out the direction of bargaining unit members, whether it is negotiations or contract maintenance, including grievances.
Because MNA is the certified bargaining agent for our organized work sites, nurses have rights in the workplace to achieve essential elements of practice and working conditions. With a union contract, nurses are at the table – as equals - negotiating staffing, health and safety, wages and benefits and much more.
A Note from MNA's E & GW Commission
Dear MNA Members:
We know the 2010 contract negotiations were tough and the employer is not going to back down in 2013. The economy is tough, the next bargaining will be tough, so part of our strength must be to save for a rainy day!
We are nurses, we are smart, and we are strong. Start acting now. Consider saving one day’s pay each week of your gross, so you would accumulate approximately $10,000-$15,000 per year. This is doable. Also, tax refunds are not far away. How about saving that refund for the next two years? If we are successful in negotiations, this will be a nice nest egg to add to your savings.
Remember, these types of choices are an action and our employers will know we are strong and prepared.
