MNA members have a mechanism in place to make their voice heard and to help shape the future of the nursing profession.

The MNA Assembly of Practice and Education Leaders (AMPEL) was established in by-law action as an advisory forum to the Commissions on Nursing Practice and Education.“AMPEL can become an exceptional communication link for members and Commissioners,” said Practice Commission Chair Sandra Walter, RN of Pipestone.“Together, we can learn, share and shape nursing practice through healthy discussion and debate.”

All MNA members are welcome to attend AMPEL meetings.

“By gathering and sharing stories and perspectives, nurses will help their association in seeing and being proactive to trends in our practice,” said Governmental Affairs Commission member, Barbara Kroll, RN. “MNA now has its own built-in focus group.”

Results of the discussions will be forwarded to the Commissions in the form of recommendations for shaping policy or current information on practice trends to Association leaders.

Kroll and Walter also say the forum is an effective idea exchange opportunity.  “Sometimes we feel pretty isolated out there,” said Kroll.  “But a problem in Waseca can be addressed by a nurse who has already solved it in Duluth.  This program will bring together people with issues and people with solutions.”
